Chippewa County (WQOW) – The sentence was handed down for a Cadott man charged with killing his passenger in a 2018 crash.

Mavrick Kolpien is charged in the crash that killed Zachary Evanson.

In May, he pleaded no contest to one count of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle.

According to the criminal complaint, Kolpien made a sharp u-turn into a bar parking lot when his vehicle was hit by an oncoming vehicle.

Kolpien told deputies he had consumed four mixed drinks and two beers before the crash and had smoked some pot.

Friday, Judge James Isaacson sentenced Kolpien to three years in prison followed by five years of extended supervision. During that time he is ordered to maintain absolute sobriety. He will also lose his drivers license for a year and will be required to install an ignition interlock device for a year.
