Rare occurrence of the full moon coinciding with Friday the 13th

Eau Claire (WQOW) – Look up tonight, the full moon will be rising, lining up with Friday the 13th.

The last time we had a full moon on Friday the 13th was in October of 2000, and the next occurrence won’t be til August 13, 2049.

Tonight’s moon is called the “Harvest Moon” since it is the closest to the Fall Equinox. It will also be a micro moon, since its the farthest away from earth, appearing 14% smaller than a typical full moon, according to NASA.

Better yet, skies will turn partly to mostly clear overnight, giving us a great shot of seeing it here in southern Wisconsin. Enjoy!
