Petition to close Anson boat landing rejected by town

Anson (WQOW) – Angry residents packed the town hall in Anson Thursday evening to talk about a petition to close a boat landing off Lake Wissota.

A homeowner next to the Yellow River Boat Landing started the petition, saying the lack of parking makes the adjacent road dangerous.

However the town hall overflowed with people against the idea. Residents say because it is the only free boat landing in the area, its access to Lake Wissota is essential for fire and rescue crews.

With that in mind, the town is recommending to Chippewa County officials that the landing remain open.

However, for those that wanted the landing closed, the resolution is not a solution. “What’s it going to take? [A neighbor] has got to walk out to the mail and dodge cars every time someone comes around,” one resident opposed to the landing said, met with an angry retort from the rest of the crowd. “I tell you what, it’s a pain in the butt for the people that live there, and that’s why nearly everyone on that corner signed that petition.”

Chippewa County officials will meet September 26 to determine the future of the landing with the town’s recommendation in mind.
