Bloomer (WQOW)- As students get ready to go back to school, kids in Bloomer don’t need to worry about filling their backpacks with school supplies.

The Blackhawk Education Foundation gives students in kindergarten through 8th grade free school supplies.

Superintendent Brian Misfeldt said supplies will be waiting for students when they show up the first day of school on September 3.

Misfeldt said this foundation was established in 2018.

Before the foundation was founded, community members came together to provide supplies for kids in need, but now they started the foundation to provide supplies for every student.

This year alone, $48,000 has been raised to buy the supplies.

Misfeldt said it’s a great feeling to provide some economic relief for parents.

“For them it’s one less thing they need to worry about,” Misfeldt said. “On average our school supply kits, which provide all the supplies our students are going to need, cost about $45 to $50 per kit, depending on the grade level. So, that’s money that stays in the pocket that they can use for basic needs or taking their kids out to go shopping for school clothes to start the school year off.”

Misfeldt said for right now they don’t have school supplies for high schoolers because it’s a bit trickier to know what each student will need since they all take different classes. He hopes that changes in the future.

If you’re interested in donating to the foundation, Misfeldt said you can contact the district office at 715-568-2800.
