Eau Claire (WQOW) – The third annual fitness expo returns to Eau Claire next month and this year it is raising funds to help veterans.

The Catch a Lift Fund (CAL) is a nationwide organization that helps vets get in-check with their mental and physical health through fitness.

Twelve Wisconsin veterans are currently on the program’s wait list but the fitness expo hopes donations can change that.

Melissa Leuck, a CAL coach and Iraq veteran, said the program has a positive impact on vets’ lives.

“I tell people all the time – sometimes just something as simple as knowing there is someone out on the other end that cares about you, is thinking about you, is checking up on you. That [is] sometimes all it takes to save a life and I know that has saved mine,” Leuck said.

The fitness expo is having a bar-hanging competition in September with all the proceeds going to CAL. You can sign up here.
