Man says he was beaten unconscious for confronting Marine impostor

Dunn County (WQOW)-  The Dunn County Sheriff’s Office is looking for three attackers who beat a man unconscious earlier this month.

Robert Liedl was beaten and left in the parking lot of Shooters strip club near Elk Mound early in the morning on July 6. He says it happened after he confronted a man he claims was posing as a Marine to get free drinks at the club.

Liedl, a veteran himself, alerted staff after repeatedly asking the man to stop. Liedl says after the man was escorted out of the club – he and two others waited for Liedl to leave, and jumped him.

After Liedl came to, he found his way to a business down the road. Employees called the sheriff’s office, who got him to a hospital.

Although Liedl was left with severe bruising and a broken rib he says he doesn’t regret his actions.

“I’ve had a lot of people say to me that it really wasn’t worth what I went through, but in my mind it’s just blatant disrespect to myself and every other service member, every other veteran that gave the ultimate sacrifice,” Liedl said.

As of right now Liedl’s medical bills are being covered by the VA. Sheriff’s deputies tell News 18 they’ve received a few tips from the public but they are still requesting anyone with information to contact them.
