Chippewa Falls (WQOW) – The Northern Wisconsin State Fair is getting some national attention this year. Food Network is joining the fun at the fair and featuring a local vendor who is creating a fancy funnel cake.

Deanna’s Diner was picked to be featured on the Food Network’s “Carnival Eats.”

Co-owner Megan Hagy showed News 18 how she makes the funnel cakes that are garnering national attention.

Hagy said her family grew up making fair food in Florida and caught the Food Network’s eyes through social media.

This Saturday, a crew will be in Chippewa Falls to film the segment.

Thursday she showed News 18 how she makes her two most-popular recipes – cookies and cream and strawberries and cream.

She has come up with a special recipe for “Carnival Eats.” She’s creating a funnel latte, which is a chocolate funnel cake filled with coffee and topped with lots of whipped cream.

She said while it’s fun to come up with unique recipes, it’s even better being able to see her customers happy.

“That’s what’s worth it is seeing the little kids face when you hand them this cookies and cream funnel cake that has so much chocolate on it that their hearts are going to explode. Just seeing their faces light up and seeing old people, young people all come together and be able to support their local communities,” Hagy said.

You will not be able to get a funnel latte at the fair this year. Hagy said it might be available next year.

The episode is expected to air on Food Network this fall.
