Mayor: La Crescent Area Event Center adds to city’s identity

La Crescent, MN (WXOW) – It took years of planning, years of work and contributions from people and businesses throughout the area.  That effort, resulting in an open house at the La Crescent Area Event Center just off Highway 61.

It’s a 13,000 square foot multi-use facility made possible with private donations.

La Crescent Mayor Mike Poellinger says another key for the project was the American Legion.  You may know the organization’s building used to be located on the site where the Center and attached hotel now sit.

Mayor Poellinger says, “This is a group of people that raised their own money, built their own building, and were willing to become part of the project. And a key component in the project was giving up their building and their space to accommodate this new double facility.”

Poellinger says La Crescent used to be home to three motels,  designed primarily for use by people who wanted to hunt in the area or fish.  The new Best Western attached to the Event Center will provide a number of opportunities for people who are in La Crescent for weddings, graduation or other events.

The hotel is set for completion May 31.
