Eau Claire/Chetek (WQOW) – Some ducklings are safe, thanks to the Eau Claire Police Department.

Police said they were called about ducklings in the area of Highway 53 and Golf Road.

They said the mother duck was hit and the ducklings were lost and about to go into traffic when officers arrived and collected all 13 of them.

Police said the ducklings tried to make a run for it at the police department, but were safely collected. They will now be going to a home to rehabilitate.

Up in Chetek, Travis Hakes, police officer and wildlife rehab and release volunteer sent us photos of a baby goose he found alone on the side of the road.

He said it was docile and even fell asleep in his hand.

Hakes said he found a flock of geese that took the little guy in.
