Eau Claire (WQOW) – A local organization focused on providing hot meals for those in need, has gone mobile, to raise funds to further their mission.
The Community Table now has a food truck that offers a variety of pizzas and calzones, with all the proceeds going back to the Communtiy Table. Officials say funds will be used for their ‘Deceptively Delicious’ program, which is focused on making seemingly fun meals healthier.
Staff told News 18 they will also hand out free bus passes from the truck, to help break down a common barrier for those who need a nutritious meal.
“To have this 14-foot billboard advertising our hours and services and to provide that transportation, I hope that is the number one thing that we’re able do. To help more people, to mobilize themselves,” said Michelle Koehn, executive director of The Community Table.
Shae Callewaert came up with the truck’s design. He told News 18 it’s a creative way to help address food insecurity in Eau Claire.
“It’s really easy to not notice it with all the cool stuff going on downtown, but there’s kind of a lost community that we’re not focusing on as much, and this allows us to engage with the community,” Callewaert said.
Koehn added that she hopes to have The Community Table Food Truck at many events this summer. You can find their list of events here.
