Snow collapses roof on Eau Claire business

Eau Claire (WQOW) – So much heavy snow collapsed the roof of a local business.

Randy’s Auto Sale and Salvage had spent $20,000 on a tent a month ago so they had a place to store their parts in the winter.

Thanks to nearly two feet of snow accumulation, the roof fell in a couple days ago.

Owner Reza Mousavi says a worker heard crackling coming from the tent, and when they ran inside to alert other staffers the structure was already coming down.

He said luckily they were able to cut the tarp on the ceiling themselves and remove the snow’s weight to avoid further damage.

“Actually it was crazy, it was like unreal. It was like an avalanche. I was really scared it would collapse even more, but as soon as we cut the tarp, it let go of the weight,” Mousavi said.

Mousavi is glad nobody was hurt and no parts were damaged, because they hadn’t moved them under the tent yet.

He said now they’ll dismantle the rest of the structure, and clean up the area it used to cover. They’re not sure yet how they’ll store all those parts going forward.
