Osseo (WQOW)- With the interstate shut down for six hours, many people had no choice but to find a hotel Sunday night.

The Super 8 in Osseo has 53 rooms. Manager Nikki Spies says by 5:30 p.m. Sunday, they were full. People stranded by the crash had rented the last 20 or so open rooms.

She said they even had to turn down five to eight people, and call other hotels to see if they had vacancies.

Their lobby was packed with families, kids and truck drivers involved in the accident.

“They are very fortunate to be here and be alive,” Spies said. “We had a semi truck driver that actually was in the cab 20 minutes prior to that accident and if he hadn’t moved to that passenger seat he probably would have been in some serious condition.”

Spies said they offered their customers a discount due to the bad weather conditions.

She said they’re still trying to clean as many rooms as possible because there’s more bad weather on the way.
