Recent snow and cold temperatures cause volunteer shortage

Eau Claire (WQOW)- With driving sometimes dangerous, and the weather just feeling unpleasant, local organizations are short on volunteers.

The Community Table usually has 10 to 12 volunteers to help cook and serve people who need a hot meal.

Kyle Reinke, kitchen coordinator, said Thursday seven volunteers showed up, and last week they only had one.

Reinke said it’s tough to feed everyone without the extra help.

“In instances where we don’t have as many volunteers coming to our organization, those are the times that we need to get creative to bring in more volunteers, keeping the volunteer’s safety in mind at the same time,” Reinke said.

They’re trying to bring in more volunteers with a Korean cooking class Friday, where people can learn a new dish, and help the community.

In addition to the shortage at the Community Table, the American Red Cross is facing a blood shortage. A lot of blood drives have recently been canceled due to the snow and below freezing temperatures
