Closs reunited with family, gun recovered believed to be used night of murder

Barron County (WQOW) – Jayme Closs has been reunited with her aunt, less than 24 hours after she escaped from her abductor in Douglas County.

Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald said Closs was reunited with her aunt at the hospital Friday afternoon.

Fitzgerald said they recovered guns at the suspect’s house – including a shotgun they believe was used to kill James and Denise Closs on October 15, 2018. Authorities said they have a search warrant at the suspect’s house.

They say he worked to allude police and even shaved his head to change his appearance.

The sheriff went on to say the suspect, Jake Patterson, 21, never had contact with James or Denise and his motive the night they were killed was to abduct Jayme.

Fitzgerald said while Patterson was employed at Jennie-O for one day, he may have held employment in that area at other locations.

Fitzgerald said there is one person who really deserves credit.

“Jayme is the hero in this case,” he said.

Patterson will appear in Barron County Court on Monday at 3:30 p.m.
