City Council hears proposal for new housing development

Eau Claire (WQOW)- The City Council also heard from developers for a housing project on Eau Claire’s far west-side.

As we reported, S.C. Swiderski wants to rezone more than 100 acres on Kane Rd. near the Menards corporate center to build new rental units, ranging from town-houses to a 20-unit apartment building.

Monday the company lowered the number of proposed units from 564 to 536 units after meeting with residents that would become neighbors of the property.

Two residents spoke at Monday’s meeting. They urged the developer to consider the need for more affordable housing in the community, but said they’re both still strongly in favor of this project. Both residents said they appreciate the extensive work the developer has done to consider both current neighbors and the needs of the community while developing this project.
