Chippewa Falls (WQOW) – While many spent their Labor Day weekend grilling burgers or hitting the road, one teacher spent her holiday hitting the books to prepare for her 32nd first day of school.
Hillcrest Elementary Teacher Sarah Daniels is getting ready for her 32nd first day of school.
On Tuesday, 23 first graders will be sitting in these chairs, and they’ll definitely have a teacher who cares for kids.
“I just love seeing the kids and the gains that they make,” Sarah Daniels, a first grade teacher at Hillcrest Elementary School, said.
She’s finalizing her lessons plans and stocking her bookcases. Daniels has been filling young minds with knowledge for 31 years, but the first grade teacher says the job still comes with challenges.
“It’s like flying an airplane while you’re building it and it starts on fire, but you have to keep on flying. It really doesn’t get easier, but you just get better at it I think,” Daniels said.
But her colleagues believe she’s a pro and lends a helping hand to more than just students.
“She takes away from her time for prepping her classroom to help us with stuff,” Sydney Jarrard, another first grade teacher at Hillcrest Elementary School, said. “She has great ideas that I’m already stealing and using in my classroom. So yeah, she’s really helpful and I can already tell she’s a great teacher.”
Daniels says she loves making connections with new kids every school year.
“It’s fun in first grade because you get to see them as they grow throughout the year. It just brings me a lot of joy.”
Daniels also hopes the new batch of students will love her just as much.
“I hope that the kids will love coming here and that they’ll want to come every day and they’ll look forward to coming.”
In her many years of teaching, Daniels says it’s interesting to see how technology has also been incorporated into the curriculum.
