EAU CLAIRE (WQOW) - After just five games, the UW-Eau Claire men's basketball season is over.

The Blugolds will not play another game this season due to COVID-19 protocols. A member of the team received a positive PCR test over the weekend, meaning the team cannot compete for 14 days.

"I feel bad for our student-athletes on the men's basketball team," Dan Schumacher said. "It could have happened to anybody. I think our student-athletes have shown great due diligence by staying by the protocols."

This week's games against UW-Oshkosh on Wednesday and Friday were canceled, and the Blugolds will not compete in next week's WIAC tournament.

Last Friday's game against UW-River Falls was canceled due to COVID-19 protocols. The Falcons reviewed game film over the weekend to conduct contact tracing.

UW-Eau Claire went 2-3 this season, earning two wins over UW-Stout in the second week of competition.
