Cyle Kowalski sets Mosinee boys basketball all-time scoring record

(WAOW)-Cyle Kowalski scored 18 points Tuesday night for Mosinee, passing Luke Spink to become the school’s all-time leading scorer.

For those that know Cyle and his family, it should come as no surprise. In fact, you could say basketball runs in their blood.

It started with Cyle’s mom and dad.

“I happened to see Cyle’s mom in there as a 600-point scorer, she also has a couple records, one of them being the most free throws in a game. Cyle’s dad also was a good player, an all-conference level player when he played,” said Mosinee head coach Andy Bruess.

Then it was Cyle’s older brother Casey’s turn. Casey was a member of the GNC Champion Mosinee team two years ago.

And now it’s come to Cyle.

He’s a four year varsity player for Mosinee, getting the job done consistently since his freshman year, Bruess said.

Not only did Cyle break the school record, but he took it from his best friend.

“It was pretty cool, we were just joking and stuff. It was pretty awesome,” said Kowalski.

That record not only cemented his legacy at the school, but made sure his name would be written in it’s history.

“It’s a pretty good feeling, I like making my parents proud and I know my brothers do too, so it’s pretty awesome.”

And don’t look now, but Cyle has two younger brothers. One of them is a freshman and part of the Mosinee program, and another younger one who will make his way into the program in a couple of years.

Just don’t ask which one will end up being the best.

“That’s a fun debate to talk about especially with my 8th grade coach who has seen three of them now, and we’ll talk about it just for fun to say who do you think is gonna better, but I’m not gonna say that, I’m not gonna make that choice on the air, I don’t want to get into any trouble,” Bruess said.

No matter which one ends up the best, it’s safe to say we’ll be hearing the Kowalski name for a long time to come.
