EAU CLAIRE (WQOW) - "Re-defined teamwork." Those are the words from Eau Claire Mayo Clinic's Chief of Nursing Pam White as she reflected on a year of COVID-19.
During a Zoom meeting, nurses and doctors from Mayo Clinics across the U.S were asked to reflect on this challenging year. White said she was taken aback by the nurses she worked with, their resilience, commitment and flexibility.
"I'm hearing now stories of resiliency that I never could have imagined," White said. "What the staff did to maintain that resiliency, their willingness to be flexible, to learn, to respond in ways that I think surprised themselves quite frankly."
White also said that it was difficult for patients who were unable to be with their families in their last moments of life. But she said those patients never passed alone and the nurses went out of their way to make virtual connections between patients and their families.
White called the efforts made by the nurses this year heroic and she believes when we look back on this pandemic as a memory, it will be the strength of nurses that people will remember the most.
