You Ask, We Answer: What happened to the Madison Street trees?

EAU CLAIRE (WQOW) - Several viewers have asked why a grouping of trees has been removed just north of the Madison Street bridge in Eau Claire.
Matt Staudenmaier with the city parks and forestry department said it has to do with the ongoing development of the Cannery District.
He said agreements between the city and developers have been in place for a while and are part of the original design for the district. Now, that stage of the development process is finally being implemented, which includes removing those trees.
"The agreements probably date back a couple of years even, but it was just one of those situations where the work had never gotten done and so now it finally did get done," Staudenmaier said.
