CADOTT (WQOW) - The Cadott Hornets have wrestled all season long as if there would be a state tournament.

Last week, they got the news they were hoping for.

The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association announced Friday its plan for the postseason, with regionals scheduled for Saturday, January 30.

Cadott will wrestle in Edgar in one of 16 regionals statewide. The team state tournaments will be held at three high schools - Kaukauna (D1), Adams-Friendship (D2) and Wausau West (D3).

"It was definitely weight on your shoulders, not knowing if you're going to get that opportunity," sophomore Brayden Sonnentag said. "Just reassuring, good to know we have a chance and opportunity to compete for a state championship."

The WIAA approved more teams gathering for competitions this week as a ramp up to the postseason, but the Hornets chose not to wrestle this week out of precaution to be healthy for regionals.

"It was a hard decision, kids need matches. They didn't have their normal amount of matches, not even close," head coach Josh Speath said. "I think for us it outweighs the risk. We'll hopefully have everyone healthy to go on the regional day."

Cadott has won two team state wrestling titles. The last came in 2007, the last time the Hornets qualified for the event.

Cadott is ranked fifth in the latest WI Wrestling Division 3 poll.

"People are sleeping on us," junior Gavin Tegels said. "I think they should be ready for us."
