Chippewa Falls (WQOW)- News 18 has showcased the finished construction of the new Stillson Elementary in Chippewa Falls, but what about the old building? Well, for now, a private school is taking it over.
Liberty Christian School has signed a lease to use the old Stillson Elementary for the upcoming school year.
The 32-year-old school operated last year out of an Eau Claire church but moved into its new home earlier this week.
School officials say the move was a perfect opportunity for them after the Chippewa Falls Area Unified School District made the space available.
"We have kind of over the 32 years rented different facilities," said Seth Spate, business manager for Liberty Christian School. "When this opportunity came along, obviously former schools don't come up every year, so when we saw this opportunity, it was something we just couldn't turn down. We really appreciate the Chippewa Falls School District working with us to make this happen."
The Chippewa Falls School District still owns the building, and it is still up for sale, but officials at Liberty Christian say they hope to make it their permanent home in the near future.
Liberty Christian is offering an in-person, five-day school week for grades 6-12. Its school year kicks off next Tuesday.
