St. Croix Falls (WQOW) - We are learning new details about a shooting in St. Croix Falls earlier this month, including the fact the man killed by police was from Eau Claire.

On the night of August 8, St. Croix Falls police responded to a motel to help a woman whose boyfriend had a knife.

When officers got to the motel they say Terry Treleven, 45, of Eau Claire came to the door with a knife and refused to drop it.

Police say when Treleven came toward an officer he was shot and killed.

Officers add when they got into the room they found a female with several stab wounds to her neck, chest and hands. She was flown to Regions Hospital and is expected to survive.

Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald and his department have been investigating this incident. On Monday, Fitzgerald sent out a press release from the Saint Croix Falls Police Department which identified Treleven and the officers involved.

The officers are Micah Lebrun and Patrick Mariakis. Authorities say Mariakis is who pulled the trigger.

The officers have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. That is normal protocol.
