The Bears prepare to play Jim Falls in a postseason game on Saturday, August 8, 2020.

(WQOW) - Three members of the Eau Claire Bears have been ruled ineligible for the Wisconsin Baseball Association State Championship Tournament this weekend.

The WBA released a statement early Wednesday morning saying it voted Monday to disallow Jon Schoch, Drew Steinmetz, and Cole Zweifelhofer from playing for the Bears for a number of reasons - the first being that allowing three top players from the 2019 WBA state runner-up team, the Tilden Tigers, would serve as an unfair advantage for Eau Claire.

Below is the full statement:

Eau Claire manager Chevy Tollefson said Tuesday night the three players in question have been with the Bears on and off this season, as Tilden dropped out of the Chippewa River Baseball League earlier this summer.

"Therefore their guys were a part of our team and they were on my WBA roster. Now the WBA is telling me that they can no longer be on my team and won't be allowed to participate in state," Tollefson said.

Tollefson appealed the WBA's decision, but said he had not heard back.

He also said he cannot replace the three players on the roster.

"It puts a little more fire under us because we're mad about it. Those guys were part of our team," Tollefson said. "If they're not allowed to play, we're going to do what we can to do it for them too."

Eau Claire opens the state tournament on Friday night in Hayward against River Falls.
