Eau Claire County (WQOW) - An Eau Claire man has been charged for allegedly stabbing another man over the weekend.
Dennis M. Smith, 63, is charged with battery - use of a dangerous weapon, disorderly conduct and bail jumping.
Eau Claire police say Smith stabbed the victim three times; once in the neck, once in the shoulder and once in the torso.
The victim was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive.
Police say Smith was at the bar arguing with the victim prior to the stabbing and the two had to be separated.
According to the criminal complaint, Smith initially denied stabbing the victim and said someone at a nearby bar did it.
Police spoke to the bartender and bar owner who said Smith and the victim had been arguing before leaving the bar.
Authorities took Smith into custody. When they got to the jail, an officer said he took Smith's clothing and found blood on the side of Smith's shirt.
A $10,000 cash bond has been set for Smith. He will be back in court on August 4 for a preliminary hearing.
If convicted on all the charges, Smith could spend more than 18 years in prison.
