Eau Claire (WQOW)- UW-Eau Claire is launching a new major this fall, and due to the times we are in, more students are drawing interest.
The university will offer Bachelor of Arts, and Bachelor of Science degrees in public health starting in September. Students will be required to take courses in epidemiology, health policy and environmental public health.
Coincidentally, the major is launching in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, forcing professors to make adjustments to include it in their curriculum, but one faculty member says the major couldn't start at a better time.
"It's the real world for everybody on campus, from students to faculty," said Dr. Karen Mumford of the Watershed Institute at UW-Eau Claire. "So, as we figure out what to do about COVID, our students are going to be part of thinking through solutions to address this current public health crisis."
Mumford says with new information about COVID-19, more students are expressing interest and enrolling in the major. Students are scheduled to begin the fall semester on September 2.
