(WQOW) - The season openers for UW-Eau Claire and UW-Stout football have been sacked.

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced Thursday its teams will not play in any non-conference contests this fall.

The Blugolds were scheduled to play at St. Thomas on Saturday, September 5. The Blue Devils were scheduled to host St. Olaf College on Thursday, September 3.

The MIAC's decision also impacts UW-Eau Claire‘s and UW-Stout’s volleyball and women's soccer teams.

The Blue Devils' first three football games were canceled by Thursday night after St. Norbert College, a member of the Midwest Conference, also dropped non-conference games from its schedule.

The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) is expected to announce its plans for the fall sports season in the coming days.
