Eau Claire (WQOW) - According to its Facebook page, the Eau Claire Marathon 2.0 will not be held in-person this September. Marathon officials said their focus will switch to making the best virtual race possible.

As we've reported, the marathon was postponed to the weekend of September 26 and 27, due to COVID-19 concerns. Marathon officials said that with the 5,000 runners, 800 volunteers and thousands of spectators, it wasn't possible to follow Eau Claire's public health order.

Officials said the decision was carefully made after working closely with the health department.

The following is a statement made in the Facebook post:

"Our team is busy coming up with ways for our runners to stay socially distanced, yet connected, so we can celebrate your running milestones with you in September. We hope that you’ll run virtually with us, but if that is not for you, we have two other options outlined in the email you just received."
