Menomonie (WQOW) - COVID-19 has closed the Red Cedar Speedway, but the track's biggest event of the year, the Punky Manor Challenge of Champions, could still go on.
Mark Thomas, president of the Red Cedar Racing Association, said Thursday the group is exploring options to hold the race weekend at another venue in September.
The Association will decide by the end of July if it can move forward.
"That would give us a good month and a half to really dig in and negotiate that contract, whatever that would look like and prepare to make it happen," Thomas said. "Because there's a lot of moving parts."
Thomas said the event needs to have Wissota sanctioning and make sense from a financial perspective. A deciding factor in keeping Red Cedar Speedway closed was a disagreement between Dunn County officials and the Association over the number of fans allowed to attend a race at the publicly-owned track.
