Division III student-athletes will not lose a season of eligibility in 2020-21 if their team completes 50 percent or less of its schedule, the NCAA said Thursday.
The blanket waiver is a result of the coronavirus pandemic, and gives athletes the chance to enjoy four meaningful seasons of eligibility.
This waiver only applies to the 2020-21 academic year. If a team completes more than 50 percent of its schedule, its athletes are not eligible for the waiver, regardless of how many contests they played in.
The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference is expected to announce its plans for the fall sports season next week.
In March, the conference canceled its spring sports season.
