Eau Claire (WQOW) - The COVID-19 pandemic has been devastating for many industries, but has had the opposite effect on pool sales.
In fact, you may have trouble finding one this summer if you still want to add one to your backyard. Ty Schoettl with Swimrite Pools and Spas said sales across the industry have increased 800% during the pandemic. He said there has been a tremendous increase in sales across the board, including pools, hot tubs, patio furniture and grills.
Schoettl said people looking for safe ways to cool off while social distancing and having to cancel summer vacation plans has driven up demand.
"Probably about two months ago, we were completely sold out of pools for the entire summer," said Schoettl. "We're booking for next year, well into next year at this point. And hot tubs have definitely been the same."
Schoettl said such a high demand for pools across the industry as a whole has led to the shortage, and said they do not usually sell out of pools during the summer. He said if you are looking to install a pool, you can plan ahead for next summer.
Schoettl also said there are still hot tubs available and a couple openings for above ground pools this fall, but spots are filling up fast.
