Chippewa Valley (WQOW)- A local resident is looking to bring joy to the Chippewa Valley by launching his own treasure hunt.
Etrayu Fitzgerald of Eau Claire is launching The Chippewa Valley Treasure Hunt, a free community event where hunters search to find a hidden stone
If found, the winner will receive a $1,000 prize.
Fitzgerald said the winnings are straight from his pocket, with half of it coming from another treasure hunt he participated in recently.
He said with the country's current climate, he hopes to get people outdoors and give them a much-needed adventure.
"I just love that things like this still exist today," said Fitzgerald. "It's not like treasure hunting is something of the past. It's still something that can be done if someone organizes it, so I just thought, why not?"
The clue, in the form of a poem, will be released July 10 at 5 p.m.
Fitzgerald said the stone is hidden in a safe location on public land somewhere in the Chippewa Valley. He is encouraging any participants to document their search with videos and images to share on the hunt's Facebook page.
