Eau Claire (WQOW) - The Eau Claire Chamber of Commerce has released a statement urging all business owners and customers to follow CDC guidelines and wear a mask. However, chamber leaders said this is not a mandate, but rather a suggestion based solely on economic benefit.

Dave Minor, the president and CEO of the chamber, said the city cannot afford for business to be put on pause again.

"If we want our businesses, our investors to stay open, we're simply asking them, their employees and the public coming to them to wear a mask when they're going to interact with them," Minor said. "We can't afford to have any shutdown or go backward anymore. The businesses that have truly been hurt are the ones that need the help the most and we can't afford to have them close down again."

Minor said the push to wear masks will continue throughout the summer.
