Eau Claire (WQOW) - A multi-million dollar proposal to provide all Eau Claire School District students with electronic devices will be voted on by the school board on Monday night.

Under the plan, all pre-K through sixth graders would receive an iPad to take home while seventh through twelfth graders would get laptop computers.

The students could take the devices home to do assignments, take part in class discussions and work on projects.

Business services director Abby Johnson said the idea has been in the works for a while, and then the cancellation of in-school classes due to COVID-19 brought the needs to the forefront.

Johnson said some families often don't have enough devices at home if there are several students in the home and if parents need the devices for their jobs.

Also on Monday night, the board will hear a committee's recommendations to deal with the problem of three southside elementary schools that are nearing 100% capacity.
