Eau Claire (WQOW)- As the demand for electric vehicles rises, and more Americans are plugging in instead of filling up, Eau Claire home builders are providing new homes with the energy-efficient technology to charge them.
C&M Home Builders and Eau Claire Energy Cooperative have teamed up to build Eau Claire's first "electric vehicle ready" community, by installing one electric vehicle charger in every home in a new local development.
The new neighborhood called the "Trilogy Development" is located on Eau Claire's south side where 44 new homes will be constructed. They are geared to accelerate the adoption of more eco-friendly electric cars in the Chippewa Valley.
"We want to have an active role when it comes to electricity in the community by using it responsibly, using it smartly, and just being efficient with it," said Adam Westaby, a member services worker at Eau Claire Energy Cooperative.
So far, one home is completely built and two others are under construction. The entire 44 home development is expected to be finished in Fall 2021.
