Eau Claire County (WQOW) - Eau Claire County has had its three worst days in terms of new COVID-19 cases since the disease made its way to town.
Eau Claire County is up to 218 positive cases. That is in part due to 38 new cases since Friday (+14 on Saturday, +14 on Sunday and +10 on Monday). The previous high single-day increase of cases was nine on June 18. That is despite testing remaining very consistent, according to the health department.
Lieske Giese, health department director, said numbers are increasing and the disease is spreading because people are not following guidelines.
"Eau Claire for the most part, I think, is paying attention and then people are leaving the businesses and a small group of employees are going and socially gathering and not keeping distance," Giese said. "It's those kinds of examples that are making a difference for us locally."
Giese reiterated if you are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms you should get tested.
