Man pleads insanity in his dad’s murder case

Dunn County (WQOW) - The Colfax man accused of murdering his father entered an insanity plea Friday.

Gary Styer entered the plea of innocent by mental disease or defect during at hearing in Dunn County Court.

His lawyer requested he undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

Styer is accused of using a 2x4 piece of wood to bludgeon 78-year old Edward Styer to death in January, at the home they shared near Colfax.

According to investigators, Gary Styer told them he committed the murder after years of physical abuse as a child, and emotional abuse that lasted into adulthood.

Another hearing is set for late July.
