Eau Claire (WQOW)- Soon, you won't have to worry about which side of the street you're parking on in Eau Claire.
The alternate side parking ordinance in the city ends Friday after being in effect for six months.
The Eau Claire Police Department says throughout the duration of the ordinance they issued over 10,000 warnings and more than 6,600 citations for those who were not parked correctly. City officials still believe that the restrictions were effective in allowing plows and street sweepers to complete maintenance.
"The citizens seem to have understood it better and were cooperating and parking in the correct place," said Steven Thompson, streets and fleet maintenance manager for the city of Eau Claire. "Anytime you can do that and it works easier for everyone, I think it's a step in the right direction."
This year's ordinance was different from the winter of 2018-2019, when calendar parking was required only during winter plowing events. City officials say there are no plans to change the format of the current alternate side parking policy for next winter.
