110 employees being cut permanently from Hutchinson Technology

Eau Claire (WQOW) - By mid-June another 110 people in the Chippewa Valley will be without a job as a big employer in the area announces the second round of job cuts in as many months.

In a letter to the Department of Workforce Development, Sara St. John, HR director at Hutchinson Technology, says the layoffs were because of "COVID-19-related business circumstances" the company did not see coming.

The 110 layoffs will begin around May 28 and be completed by June 11, according to the letter.

These layoffs at the plant on Alpine Road in Eau Claire are the second set of layoffs the company has announced in as many months. In March, HTI announced 112 people would be losing their jobs because of a discontinuation of operations.
