Eau Claire (WQOW) - A key player in the healthcare industry in western Wisconsin is asking employees for voluntary furloughs.

News 18 reached out to HSHS Sacred Heart Hospital, and officials told us they are "offering voluntary furloughs as they manage this financial crisis."

Those who volunteer to be on furlough must have it approved by HR. If HR approves their furlough, it could last from next week until August 15.

Executive leaders across their health system are also taking salary reductions up to 30 percent.

In a statement sent to News 18, officials said they've seen an overall decline in the use of healthcare services at all 15 of their HSHS hospitals in Wisconsin and Illinois due to the suspension of elective procedures.

HSHS officials say they can choose to bring people back early based on how the COVID-19 situation evolves.

Both Mayo Clinic and Marshfield Clinic Health Systems announced temporary furloughs and pay cuts at their facilities earlier in April.
