Eau Claire (WQOW) - It's been quite a season for the Eau Claire Memorial/North Alliance Co-op Swim and Dive Team. The group broke numerous school records, finished on top in the Big Rivers conference, and took first place in the Division One Sectional.
Nine members of the team are headed down to Madison to compete in the state meet this weekend. The senior teammates are especially ready to cap of a great high school career.
"This has definitely been one of the better team that we've had," says senior swimmer Jack Merkatoris. "We've just had a lot of depth and a lot of good bonding between us. Apart from that, it's just having fun because this is the last one."
"I'm looking forward to the atmosphere, it's one of the craziest meets ever and most of us have never experienced something like this," says senior swimmer Tyler Ries. "Being a senior, you always have to just take it in."
But it can get emotional at times, when they have to say goodbye to the members not making the trip.
"It gets kind of sad towards the end because we start to peel off and some of us have to leave because we don't make it as far," says senior diver Seth Henning. "But I'm ready for this state competition."
The state meet opens up Friday afternoon in Madison.
