Eau Claire (WQOW) - A group of local parents are making sure students with special needs across the Chippewa Valley are able to have a comfortable and fun prom experience this April, but they need help to make sure everyone has a chance to shine.

Attire, hair and makeup will be given to each participant free of charge, so organizers are looking for monetary donations along with dresses, shoes, accessories and men's dress clothes.

Organizers said they'll take anything appropriate for the event, like clothes people once wore to their own prom.

"As long as they're clean so we don't have to take them to dry clean, that's great," said Kelly Peterson, event organizer. "Another thing that would be great if anyone would be willing to offer alterations. We're looking for something like that to help as well to help with the girls if they don't fit properly."

Clothing donations can be dropped off at Hasenberg Financial Group at the corner of East Clairemont Avenue and Walker Street, or Off the Rack inside the Oakwood Mall through March 14.

If you'd like to donate money, there's a fundraising page set up on Facebook.
