Hundreds cast absentee ballots ahead of partisan primary

Eau Claire (WQOW) - We're just four days away from Wisconsin's first election of 2020 but hundreds of people have already cast their vote in Eau Claire.

City Clerk Carrie Riepl told News 18 that 267 people have already filed in-person absentee ballots in the city as of February 13.

That's in addition to the 892 ballots that were requested by mail.

Tuesday, voters will be narrowing down the field in the 7th Congressional District race as well as the race for the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

Riepl said the number of absentee ballots filed is on par with what they'd expect for a year with a presidential preference election.

She told News 18 she expects a 10-15% voter turnout on Tuesday which is about average.

Riepl did ask that we remind viewers you can register at the polls on election day.
