Eau Claire (WQOW) - Health experts are warning vapers about the negative impacts it could have on your heart health.
According to the American Heart Association, heart disease is the number one killer in the country, and vaping could be increasing the chances of developing it.
An HSHS Sacred Heart cardiology nurse said like smoking cigarettes, vaping increases your blood pressure and heart rate, which increases the chance of having a heart attack or stroke.
"Nicotine itself is what's increasing your heart rate," said Recia Prosecky, Registered Nurse. "It's a stimulant. So it's making your heart race, which then in turn your heart is working harder than it needs to."
Prosecky added that there's still a lot medical experts don't know about vaping, adding to avoid risks across the board, you should avoid doing it.
The use of e-cigarettes with THC has been linked to lung injury cases, causing thousands of hospitalizations and more than 60 deaths since last April.
