Eau Claire (WQOW) - The search for Eau Claire's next city manager will being going nationwide.
Tuesday night, the Eau Claire City Council decided it will hire a search firm to help find candidates to replace Dale Peters.
Peters announced his retirement earlier this month after 30 years in public service.
Eau Claire Human Resources Director Vicki Seltun says hiring a search firm is expected to cost between $20,000-$35,000.
She said the city used a similar approach in 2012.
There's expected to be a gap between Peters' May retirement and his replacement coming on board.
Seltun said the recruitment and hiring process is expected to take between four to six months.
In two weeks the council will discuss a potential survey to get input from city staff and the community on what they'd like to see in the next city manager.
