Chippewa Falls (WQOW) - In a conference that has Division 1 commits Dalton Banks and Caden Boser, the most exciting player might come from a gym in Chippewa Falls. Cardinals senior Peyton Rogers-Schmidt is having the best season of his high school career, and taking the Big Rivers Conference by storm.

"He's just so different," says Cardinals head coach Jason Proue. "His athleticism is unlike anything I've seen in this area for awhile. He is long and he's skilled."

"I try to be an all-around player," says Rogers-Schmidt. "A team player that will pass it, shoot it. Anything that the team needs me to do, that's what I'm going to try and do."

He's done just that. The senior is second in the team for scoring, with just over 15 points a game. Rogers-Schmidt also leads the Cardinals in both rebounds and blocks, and his all-around improvement started back in the summer.

"Going into the season, I just wanted to be stronger and knew being able to shoot, that would really help my game out," says Rogers-Schmidt. "The shooting helps me drive, helps my teammates out, and defending was also very important to me too."

But even after big blocks or highlight reel dunks, Roger-Schmidt's demeanor never changes.

"He never gets too high, doesn't get too low," says Proue. "Sometimes it almost appears that he's laid back and it doesn't really matter to him, but you know one hundred percent that it does and that's the way he shows it. Having a guy like that is really huge for our success."

With his help, the Cardinals are on the cusp of achieving something that hasn't been since 1988; win a BRC title.

"That would be really special for us," says Rogers-Schmidt. "That's our expectation every year, to get that Big Rivers Conference championship. We just have to keep putting in the work, and show them that we're able to compete with everyone."
