Menomonie (WQOW) - Earlier this week, a Dunn County man was tragically killed in a car crash. Now, Chris Becker's friends are remembering him by doing what he loved most: taking a drive across the state.
"Personally, I was devastated," said Kevin Jakober, a car club member and friend of Becker's. "I can probably speak for everyone when I say that it was honestly one of the worst situations I've ever felt."
Becker, a friend to everyone in the car club, and everyone he met, died nearly two weeks away from his 20th birthday.
"I didn't believe it at first," said another member and friend, Kylee Davis. "I was in denial."
To honor him, the club organized dozens of cars and trucks to see their friend off with a caravan to his burial in Wisconsin Rapids.
"It's honestly something Chris would have loved to do," said Davis. "Cruising and traveling, it was one of his favorite things. Especially with all of us. We'd have cruises to Eau Claire every weekend and we'd go to car meets."
"Knowing that a massive group of people were doing that for him, would really mean a lot for him," added Jakober.
Along the way, they remembered what they loved most about Becker, saying his death is a blow to the whole community.
"The kindest guy you could ever meet," said club member and friend Dane Christiansen. "No matter what you could've said to him, he'd be there to help you out."
"Even if he was going through his own stuff, he was there for us no matter what," said Davis. "If we had car issues, he was there to help right away. If we were having personal issues, he was there."
While Chris Becker may not be in the driver's seat anymore, his friends know he'd be proud to see what they've done.
"He would have smiled up there," said Christiansen.
