Eau Claire (WQOW) - Eau Claire North Senior, Johnny Xiong knew how to reach his goals. He took his freshman year to focus and settle down.
Once doing so, he found his footing joining the Hmong club, the break dance club and eventually the soccer team.
But before joining the soccer team, he knew he had to get his grades up. His motivation: his friends and the other players on the team saying if they were good students he could be too.
"Ultimately that was a really good drive to do well in school so I could do soccer," said Johnny.
Success in the classroom spilled over into other endeavors, particularly when staff encouraged him to apply to represent his classmates on the school board.
"The day I found out, I got a letter that said 'Congratulations! You are the student representative for North High School, we welcome you to the school board.' When I got the letter I was like, 'let's see where this goes then.'"
Since then he's made sure to lift up north at the school board, especially it's teachers and staff.
"I kind of thought of it as a table. The school system is the flat part of it which holds just the up piece where everyone can see. But the thing is, I think of the table legs. That holds everything up top, that's the teachers and staff of school. Not just North High School. I felt as if I really needed to express that."
Looking toward the future Johnny has multiple possible paths but one thing is for certain: he's excited about what lies ahead.
