ECPD warns of scam

Eau Claire (WQOW) - In a recent Facebook post, Eau Claire Police warned people of a scammer that's pretending to be an officer or detective.

The scammer is reportedly spoofing an Eau Claire Communications Center number and asking people to call back immediately. The scammer claims that the person is a victim of a crime, or threatens arrest.

Officials said it's not unusual for an officer to call about cases or investigations. However, they suggest people ask the caller for specific details, such as a case number.

Officials also said to never provide personal account details over the phone and to call 715-839-6217 if you have concerns regarding the caller's legitimacy.
