Menomonie (WQOW) - Hundreds of high school students from all over Northwestern Wisconsin competed in a battle of wits surrounding marketing and business.

UW-Stout hosted 16 schools and over 600 students at its 48th annual DECA competition. During the event, students can take tests, perform tasks and get informed about areas like hospitality, entrepreneurship and finance.

DECA conference coordinator Brennon Burkhardt said it's a great way for students to get started on a specific career path before they even leave high school.

"They will do two role plays with a judge, giving them a case study, and just helping them get their hands on actual materials that you would work on in the real world," said Burkhardt.

Students who had the best performance will go on to compete at the state level in March.
